NAB 2024 Product Recap

NAB 2024 Product Recap

Hello from Alex Jennings, solutions architect at Vidispine. It was great to see everyone at NAB in Las Vegas and show you the latest updates to our products. For those who missed it, here is a quick recap of my highlights.

NAB 2024 Product Recap - 1

The first was our integration with Twelve Labs - who were attending NAB for the first time. How does it work? Content uploaded to MediaPortal can then be sent via a workflow to Twelve Labs to be indexed and associated with the original asset. After which users can search with natural language queries to discover content at matching timespans. MediaPortal is then able to augment these results with additional filters such as technical attributes. This “single pane of glass” was impressive as users no longer need to hop in and out of different interfaces.

Another new partnership was shown with HeyGen where a video of a presenter speaking was translated into another language with a synthesized voice and lip-synced. Beyond this, a video could be generated from scratch with a virtual avatar and selecting a background media asset.

We have continued to build on the foundation of a new video player from the previous release to now include the ability to play VidiEditor projects from the preview panel in MediaPortal. This means that users can quickly review a sequence without needing to wait for the finished media to be rendered. A fast follow from this will be the ability to preview sequences from Premiere Pro projects without leaving MediaPortal.

The show floor is notorious for unreliable internet, however it was exactly that that gave us the opportunity to demo VidiEditor’s new offline playback mode. We made sure to enable caching of the media in the project so that playback was uninterrupted. This included and graphics or effects which are all rendered directly in the browser.

There were also demonstrations of passing the audio transcript to OpenAI to generate summary descriptions to fit a specific wordcount, shot lists based on a topic which the user is interested in, and translations of subtitles and captions into a variety of languages. VidiEditor was able to show the shot list as a sequence which could be further refined in the edit. The new feature of a timed-text editor allowed us to show the results of the OpenAI translation and adjust the duration, position, and font.

Finally, we had many customers asking for niche feature requests which would be a huge benefit for their team but might not fit into the overall vision for our products. Our new Plugin feature for MediaPortal hopes to fill that gap by allowing us (and customers, partners, and integrators) to extend with unique requirements. We showed how plugins can add new tabs and pages to MediaPortal which can be rapidly prototyped and developed.

We’re already planning new innovations for IBC in Amsterdam, hope to see you there!
